Remember to ‘fall back’ one hour this Sunday

Nov. 1 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘The Day of the Dead’
It is a tradition in Mexico of dancing skeletons and laughter and music and food and dancing. We will have an extra table set up with photos of ones we loved lost to death; even photos of pets are welcome. Bring stories and flowers if you like or ribbons and bows. We will share and grieve and maybe even laugh together.

The Rev. Pat Jobe joined our Fellowship on Aug. 1, 2020. He is married to his lovely spouse Gabe and is an enthusiastic supporter of UU Lake Norman, FeedNC, Heart of the Carolinas UU Animal Ministry, the Barefoot Ministry, and all work done by UUs in our area.

Services can be viewed live at 3:10 p.m. Sundays, and later for replays, by clicking here to reach them on our website. Information on upcoming services can also be found on our Facebook page.

Nov. 8 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘Beyond Jesus and Buddha’
To the sticklers for rules, getting beyond Jesus or Buddha or Mohammed, peace be upon him, would be unthinkable. But we think in an altogether different way. Our fundamental thought is that ultimate reality must be big enough to contain all. If it were not so, how did so many different views get into our viewfinders?

Don’t Forget! Nov. 15 Service in New Location

Unitarians of Lake Norman will not meet at the Quaker Meeting House in Davidson on Sunday, Nov. 15. Instead, we will take part in the Mooresville Interfaith Thanksgiving Service that day from 3-5 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 164 Fairview Rd. in Mooresville. Our congregation will collect donations of new gloves and other cold-weather clothing such as scarves and hats until the Nov. 15 service.

One swift kick to the Department of Homeland Security happened Monday of this week. How sad that we have to be in active opposition to our own government.

We oppose and protest an illegal war in Iran, genocide in Gaza where 72,000 Palestinians have died in three years (the U.S. lost 58,220 military personnel in more than ten years in Vietnam), proxy wars in Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Syria, Sub-Saharan Africa, Ukraine and elsewhere, deaths of many because USAID was shut down, the list goes on and on.

Our active support for the Zambrano family and other immigrants helped Luz survive a hearing Monday in front of an immigration judge. Barbara Randolph and the North Mecklenburg Immigration Network hired a lawyer who kept Luz in the country with her two daughters, who were born in the U.S. and so are U.S. citizens.

We are living through a wretched time of our government breaking our laws, but as Jane Pope and others have put it, we are on the right side of history. As I said at last Sunday’s service, we have not stopped supporting the Zambranos and other immigrants.

Join Heart of the Carolinas UU Animal Ministry this Saturday, Oct. 31, as volunteers build a spacious, fenced enclosure that will let these three dogs run and play freely. No experience is needed and all tools are provided. Work will start at 9 a.m. Saturday at 4472 Botany Trail, Maiden.
                                           ________________________________
Volunteers are needed for our upcoming shift at FeedNC, the food-centered nonprofit in Mooresville, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12. No experience is needed to help chop, cook, serve and clean at this busy nonprofit. Contact Jim Arnold by clicking here if you can help.

Hope everyone has voted or has a plan to vote!  If you or anyone you know has questions about voting, the voter hotline is 888-0UR-VOTE.  Of course vote for the candidates of your choice, but please vote NO on all three constitutional amendments.  If you can, give another voter a ride to the polls.  There is a lot riding on this election.Review this week’s Friday Action Hour resources and actions on our Google doc — click here to view it.
