April 26 – Clint Tawes: ‘If You Knew Me Then’
This message explores the power and necessity of transformation. Drawing on the story of Paul’s Damascus Road experience, it reframes change not as a single dramatic moment, but as an ongoing, sacred process of growth, self-examination, and becoming.

Clint Tawes is a father of three daughters, a middle school English teacher, and an aspiring Unitarian Universalist minister. He is a former ordained Pentecostal minister and is currently in the process of becoming a UU minister. Clint holds a B.A. in English from the College of Charleston and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Georgia Southern University. He is currently pursuing a Master of Divinity degree at Starr King School for the Ministry. Clint lives in Charleston, S.C., where he is a member of the Unitarian Church.

Services can be viewed live at 3:10 p.m., and later for replays, by visiting our website. Information on upcoming services can also be found on our Facebook page.

May 3 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘The Essential Issues of Human Life’
Having explained “all” in two recent talks, the Rev. Jobe feels most capable to address The Essential Issues of Human Life on May 3. He will have two special guests in the congregation that Sunday and feels like all of you will enjoy hearing about service, laughter, connections and other essentials.

The Rev. Pat Jobe joined our Fellowship on Aug. 1, 2020. He is married to his lovely spouse Gabe and is an enthusiastic supporter of UU Lake Norman, FeedNC, Heart of the Carolinas UU Animal Ministry, the Barefoot Ministry, and all work done by UUs in our area.

Our history of being on the winning sides of suffrage, abolition of slavery, anti-war work, civil rights, smuggling Jews out of Europe, all of it went over very well at our April 19 service.

We may not be perfect but Unitarians and Universalists, especially Unitarians, gave up a lot of hope that we would be saved by a magical mysterious something outside our own actions. When we did, we started feeling the prompt to get on board with social justice instead of waiting for what Woody Guthrie called, “Pie in the sky in the sweet by and by.”

P.S. Here’s a link to make public comments on a policy ICE is considering to not allow asylum seekers in the U.S. to get work permits. It takes only a few minutes to let the government know this would be particularly heinous and cruel. Please say so in your own words.

Are You Among the Few, the Proud, the Tech Savvy?
If so, we’re looking for YOU. We need volunteers who can help with expanding and updating our website, recording our services for our YouTube channel, posting on Facebook and other “techy” endeavors. If you feel comfortable with any of these activities, please let us know. Contact Karen Abrams. Thanks!

Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way
Over the last few weeks, we’ve discussed organizing our financial and personal lives by creating, or updating our wills, and making sure that we also have health and durable powers of attorney ready in case we become unable to manage financial or health decisions. Creating those plans is both a gift to ourselves and to our families.

The Foundation Society was also introduced. Its purpose is to recognize UU Lake Norman’s members and friends who have included our Fellowship in their estate plans. The name Foundation Society was chosen because every church needs a strong foundation to build upon, to ensure its continuity, its ability to weather hard times, and to flourish. If you would like more information about any of these topics, please contact us by clicking here.

Heart of Carolinas UU Animal Ministry will resume building fences in mid-May. In the meantime, on Saturday, April 25 at 9 a.m., we will be building dog houses.  If you would be interested in helping, let Claudia know (704-280-2354). Donations of money or unused roofing shingles are always welcome.__________________________

Blue Waves – Lake Norman is hosting an event for Disappeared in America: Communities Not Cages on Saturday, April 25 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Sign up here.

Another event, Workers Over Billionaires, will be held on Friday, May 1 from 3:30-5 p.m.  Both will be at the northwest corner of Brawley School and Williamson roads in Mooresville. The group says it is committed to nonviolence in all it does and to de-escalation of conflict or confrontation. No weapons of any kind will be permitted. For more information, contact Sandy McFeeley __________________________

FeedNC in Mooresville needs our help to chop, cook, serve and wash from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14. Please contact Jim Arnold by email or at 216-225-4158 to sign up.

Our “Peace, Love and Bid! Auction” is right around the corner!  As the final days are here, these are things you need to consider:
1. If you have an item for the live or silent auction, please send the form to Pat or leave it with Linda Heydenburg at this week’s service, by this Sunday, April 26, in order to be included in the catalog.
2. If you plan to bid (in person or by proxy), let Pat know to sign you up for a bidding paddle number.
3. Sign up on the form at church to bring some type of picnic food to the event or notify Lynn Henderson.
4. Catalogs will be ready to be picked up at church on Sunday, May 3.  Get your copy and check out the amazing donations to bid on.
5. Be sure to invite family and friends to the event!  You’ll be glad you did and so will they.
6. Dust off your “hippie” clothes if you have any and wear them the evening of the auction. If you don’t have any, no worries — just come and enjoy seeing your friends in their outfits!
The auction will be held at Bailey’s Glen Clubhouse on May 9 at
12100 Meetinghouse Dr., Cornelius. Doors open at 5:45 p.m.
Silent auction from 6-7 p.m.; live auction begins at 7:30 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to join the weekly Friday Action Hour, a virtual gathering of justice-seeking friends where we take action together and nurture our spirits for the work ahead.  It’s an opportunity to live our values.

Information, phone numbers, suggested scripts for all actions are spelled out in the Action Hour document.  Join us this Friday morning at 11 via this Zoom link. If Friday doesn’t work for you, please take a moment to look over the Action Hour document here.  It is updated every week to describe small actions you can take to support Unitarian values through action.
