May 3 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘The Essential Issues of Human Life’Having explained “all” in two recent talks, the Rev. Jobe feels most capable to address The Essential Issues of Human Life on May 3. He will have two special guests in the congregation that Sunday and feels like all of you will enjoy hearing about service, laughter, connections and other essentials. The Rev. Pat Jobe joined our Fellowship on Aug. 1, 2020. He is married to his lovely spouse Gabe and is an enthusiastic supporter of UU Lake Norman, FeedNC, Heart of the Carolinas UU Animal Ministry, the Barefoot Ministry, and all work done by UUs in our area.

Services can be viewed live at 3:10 p.m., and later for replays, by visiting our website. Information on upcoming services can also be found on our Facebook page.

May 10 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘Mother’s Day, Do You Want to Follow the Sages?’Sadly, as recently as just a few days ago, another so-called “Christian” gave me a hard time on Facebook for hinting that following Jesus was about kindness, generosity, forgiveness or anything else besides salvation. Do we want to follow the sages: Buddha, Jesus, Mohammed, Confucius or even Bertrand Russell?

Just lived through a few more sad stories of current and official racism. No need to repeat here.

Victoria Eves, who is part of our tribe and a wonderful writer, has joined the cadre of Radio Free Bubba. Thinking of racist acts and attitudes, Victoria recently wrote a radio piece about being in Burma and her sense of clearly being an outsider. At first, she used an angry face in response to all the attention and she got angry faces in return. When she realized she was creating the angry faces, she switched to smiling and waving and people began to smile and wave back and at least a few walked right up and invited her to tea. She loved it.

Our congregation is made up of people who know how to smile and wave. If you show up Sunday, you’ll be able to smile and wave at my oldest son and daughter-in-law.

The catalog is being printed now and will be available for pick up on Sunday after service. You can also get a preview of the items on the Bidding Owl website. You can’t bid on the website, but can make a list for bidding at the auction.

If you are unable to attend the auction, but see items you wish to bid on, send Pat Wall (or 540-273-3746) a list of the items and the maximum that you want to bid, and she will assign a proxy bidder for you. Please send the information by Wednesday, May 6. Don’t forget to bring family and friends to the auction. If you need a bidding paddle for yourself or your guests, let Pat know so she can assign you a paddle number.

The auction will be Saturday, May 9 at Bailey’s Glen Clubhouse, 12100 Meetinghouse Dr., Cornelius. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. The silent auction goes from 6-7 p.m. — enjoy food and drinks while you bid on the silent auction items. The live auction will follow. Dust off your hippie clothes, if you have some, and join in the fun!

Please calendar the May Day Strong event, this Friday, May 1, from 3:30-5 p.m.  Wear or carry signs supporting the theme of Workers over Billionaires, including Union Strong. Place:  “Our” corner of Brawley School and Williamson roads in Mooresville. The national message encourages us to Not Buy stuff, and to Stay Away from (or walk out of) work or school.  Ditching work or school carries significant risks for family breadwinners and high school seniors expecting to graduate in the next month or so.  But refraining from shopping is something everyone can do. For more information, contact Sandy McFeeley __________________________

FeedNC in Mooresville needs our help to chop, cook, serve and wash from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 14. Please contact Jim Arnold by email to sign up.
