April 5 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘The Last List Listing Toward The End’
On April 5, we will talk about preparing for the end of life. Having just attended a memorial service where the minister had high praise for the deceased making a good list, this sounds like a very good idea.

During April, we will hear from Karen Abrams and Ray Smith and others about our new Legacy Society. Stay tuned.

The Rev. Pat Jobe joined our Fellowship on Aug. 1, 2020. He is married to his lovely spouse Gabe and is an enthusiastic supporter of UU Lake Norman, FeedNC, Heart of the Carolinas UU Animal Ministry, the Barefoot Ministry, and all work done by UUs in our area.

In her book The Serviceberry, Robin Wall Kimmerer writes that a sense of belonging is the most vital nourishment of all. There are few places where I feel more of a sense of belonging than the Quaker Meeting House at 625 South St. in Davidson on Sunday afternoons. Our 59 members give me encouragement, affirmation, friendship and energy for the week to come.

I get scared sometimes that once the word got out about this gracious and kind gathering, we’d have no place to park the cars, much less a place for everybody to sit. But I recently heard that small groups work best, according to anthropologists and sociologists who study this kind of thing. Good to know. Maybe that’s part of why we work so well.

We know Linda Heydenburg loves the movies, but here she’s literally in the picture with Ryan Gosling in the recent release Project Hail Mary. Our Tuesday movie-goers “loved this movie,” Linda reports, enough so that the group will schedule it again next week for those who missed it.

No Kings
The third wave of No Kings protests invites all of us to make a joyous, strong, statement about wanting to keep our democratic form of government. They’re happening this Saturday, March 28, at several nearby locations: Charlotte 1-4 p.m., First Ward Park; Huntersville 10-11:30 a.m., 9605 Sam Furr Rd. at U.S. 21; Concord 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Concord Parkway North and Mall Drive NE; Mooresville* 2-3:30 p.m. Brawley School and Williamson roads; Statesville 11 a.m.-1 p.m. South Center and West Broad streets; Lincolnton 2-3:30 p.m. 2100 E Main St. (vacant lot between Zips and KFC).

Auction News
Our “Peace, Love and Bid!” Auction will be May 9 at 6 p.m., at Bailey’s Glen Clubhouse, 12100 Meetinghouse Dr. in Cornelius.

Donations are needed! The auction may be only 44 days away, but donation forms are due in 33 days so that the items can be included in the catalog. Thanks to all who have already donated items. We have another murder party for Mardi Gras with Andi and Ray, pub trivia and pizza with Linda, a New Year’s luncheon with Pamela and Jim, a birdhouse painting party with Agnes and lots of fabulous items for the silent auction! Remember that your donation benefits the Fellowship.

We also have a volunteer sheet with lots of spots to fill in for set up, clean up, welcome table, bar attendant, food prep and serve, and $5 table attendants. A sign-up sheet is at the Fellowship service on Sundays. So mark your calendars, invite guests, turn in your donation forms, sign up to volunteer, and pull out your “hippie clothes” to add to the fun! Questions? Contact Pat and Doug Wall.

Everyone is welcome to join the weekly Friday Action Hour, a virtual gathering of justice-seeking friends where we take action together and nurture our spirits for the work ahead.  It’s an opportunity to live our values.

Information, phone numbers, suggested scripts for all actions are spelled out in the Action Hour document.  Join us this Friday morning at 11 via this Zoom link. If Friday doesn’t work for you, please take a moment to look over the Action Hour document here.  It is updated every week to describe small actions you can take to support Unitarian values through action.
