April 5 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘The Last List Listing Toward the End’
![]() Sunday Service, 3 P.M.: FRIENDS MEETING HOUSE 625 SOUTH ST., DAVIDSON Please visit our events calendar for more information. Mail: P.O. Box 991 Davidson, NC 28036 PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO THE END OF THE NEWSLETTER April 5 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘The Last List Listing Toward the End’On April 5, we will talk about preparing for the end of life. Having just attended a memorial service where the minister had high praise for the deceased making a good list, this sounds like a very good idea. During April, we will hear from Karen Abrams, Ray Smith and others about our new Foundation Society. Stay tuned. The Rev. Pat Jobe joined our Fellowship on Aug. 1, 2020. He is married to his lovely spouse Gabe and is an enthusiastic supporter of UU Lake Norman, FeedNC, Heart of the Carolinas UU Animal Ministry, the Barefoot Ministry, and all work done by UUs in our area. Services can be viewed live at 3:10 p.m., and later for replays, by visiting our website. Information on upcoming services can also be found on our Facebook page. April 12 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘Compensating for a Fear of Inadequacy’ Rev. Pat was startled to read that even Abraham Lincoln was dogged by a fear of not measuring up, not being enough. What about the rest of us? When are we ever enough? How do we measure it? ![]() The eight congregations that have helped immigrant families in need were able to pay the rent for April. That makes one year since we began spending $1,000 a month to house seven adults and nine children, including a baby born since her daddy was deported. He has still not been able to return to the U.S. since being moved from a prison in El Salvador back to his home country of Venezuela. Thanks again to Barbara Randolph for all she has done to coordinate this effort and serve these families. For me this effort has exposed us to others in our community with caring hearts, especially our new friends at Temple Kol Tikvah and the Methodists who meet behind the Presbyterian Church in Cornelius. They call themselves the Inclusion Community. All of the adults among the immigrants we’re helping are employed, except for the one mother who provides childcare to all nine of the children. Most of us cannot imagine the struggle and it is a special blessing on our houses that we are able to help and do so. ![]() Where There’s a Will, There’s a Way! During April, we will share tips on tackling the sometimes-daunting task of getting your end-of-life affairs in order by creating your estate plans: your will, health care powers, power of attorney, funeral plans or desires, and your in-case-of-emergency file. These documents are truly a gift to your family and to you. In addition, we will launch the Foundation Society to recognize members and friends who have included UU Lake Norman in their estate plans and to encourage others to participate. The group’s name underscores its message: Every church needs a strong foundation. If you have already included our Fellowship in your plans, please let us know, even if you prefer to remain anonymous in terms of public recognition. President Update Fellowship President Greg Davis, who announced last month that he’ll be moving from the area, is working out some details of his transition and has not set a specific date for his departure. He is President in the interim and has promised to give us ample notice so we can give him a proper send-off and arrange a successor on the Board. ![]() ![]() ![]() UU Lake Norman was well represented at last Saturday’s “No Kings” rallies in Huntersville, Mooresville and other local towns.
