Jan. 4 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘Waking from the Lie of Separation’Ministers shoot for the moon and sometimes hit the top of the barn. It is a daunting challenge perhaps summed up by a quote attributed to Mark Twain: “A man carrying two cats down the street with their tails tied together is getting ten times the experience in carrying cats as the man watching him.” How do we awaken from the lie of separation? The Rev. Pat Jobe joined our Fellowship on Aug. 1, 2020. He is married to his lovely spouse Gabe and is an enthusiastic supporter of UU Lake Norman, FeedNC, Heart of the Carolinas UU Animal Ministry, the Barefoot Ministry, and all work done by UUs in our area.

Services can be viewed live at 3:10 p.m., and later for replays, by visiting our website.
Information on upcoming services can also be found on our Facebook page.

Jan. 11 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘Deeds not Creeds’
Reading Steven Charleston’s book comparing the story of Jesus to the Native American tradition of vision quests, we find some encouraging similarities to the journey of early Unitarians as they considered how professing believers could own slaves.

A Soup Supper Invitation
Our congregation has been invited by the Inclusion Community to join them for a Soup Supper this Sunday, Jan. 4, at 5 p.m. The Community meets at The Hut, which is behind the Cornelius Presbyterian Church at 21209 Catawba Ave., Cornelius. There is no cost and we do not have to bring anything — they would just like to get to know us since we share many values.

Together is Better Lunch
Mark your calendars now for the “Together is Better Lunch” at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18. What a great way to start the New Year! We’re joining with members of Temple Kol Tikvah, our neighbor on Davidson’s South Street, for lunch from 1-2:30 p.m. that day. This gathering has grown out of the visit we enjoyed when Rabbi Becca spoke to our Fellowship for Easter services. We all agreed that we would like to get to know our neighbors, and what better way than to break bread together? We are also asking our Quaker Friends if they would like to join us as well. Lunch will be inside at the temple. All we need to bring is dessert and homemade breads.

Heart of the Carolinas UU Animal Ministry had a great year in 2025 and is ready to start again this Saturday, Jan. 3. Sadie is excited to see the volunteers for our first fence build of the new year.

We have some big builds on the calendar coming up too! One of our most-asked questions is “can we just show up?” The answer is YES! We provide the tools and training, and you get to learn new skills and meet some wonderful people and dogs.

2025 was an incredible year and here’s to an even bigger and better year ahead! Thank you for your generosity whether you donate your time, supplies for a build or snacks for the volunteers. It really takes a village to do what we do. We are very appreciative of the many ways you step up and help out and are part of the Green Team.

If you wish to make a year-end donation, here is the QR code to assist you:

UU Lake Norman’s next volunteer shift at FeedNC in Mooresville is coming up soon — it’s Jan. 8 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Many hands are needed each shift to chop, cook, serve and clean as part of this gratifying work. Please let Jim Arnold if you can help this month.
