March 8 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘Pat Jobe Explains All’
![]() Sunday Service, 3 P.M.: FRIENDS MEETING HOUSE 625 SOUTH ST., DAVIDSON Please visit our events calendar for more information. Mail: P.O. Box 991 Davidson, NC 28036 PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO THE END OF THE NEWSLETTER March 8 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘Pat Jobe Explains All’ Prompted by gentle kidding from Bruce Henderson, I decided I would go ahead and give it a shot. After all, we ministers do believe we understand all if we could just figure out some way to explain it, and then do it again in a different way next week. Seriously, our hearts are broken over a new war in the Middle East. As we take deep breaths and call our members of Congress, it is more than a little maddening to think our history in that region would not have taught us the pure insanity of such a war. Have mercy. Listen very carefully come Sunday. The Rev. Pat Jobe joined our Fellowship on Aug. 1, 2020. He is married to his lovely spouse Gabe and is an enthusiastic supporter of UU Lake Norman, FeedNC, Heart of the Carolinas UU Animal Ministry, the Barefoot Ministry, and all work done by UUs in our area. Services can be viewed live at 3:10 p.m., and later for replays, by visiting our website. Information on upcoming services can also be found on our Facebook page. March 15 – Neal Jones: ‘What Love Is and Isn’t ‘All religions promote love, but what exactly is love? Let’s examine what real love looks like, as opposed to four of its impostors.Rev. Dr. Neal Jones is a clinical psychologist for the Pisgah Institute in Asheville, though he lives in Columbia, S.C. He earned his B.A. in political science from Wake Forest University, his Master of Divinity degree from Southeastern Seminary and his doctorate in psychology from Baylor University. He has served as the minister of five congregations in the Carolinas, Texas, and Pennsylvania. He has also served as chair of the national Board of Trustees of Americans United for Separation of Church and State. He presently serves on the national Board of Trustees of the Unitarian Universalist Humanist Association. ![]() To organize my own birthday party last Sunday was a little embarrassing, but Elaine Carro jumped right in with cake and a beautiful card. The strange twist was that about 15 people were missing and we still almost packed the house. It was great to have Laura, Nancy and Sweet Cheeks back after a little time off. The humanists helped swell the crowd and we had a second-time visitor in Kathy and a first-time visitor in Joe. They both said they had a good time. I honestly think, if we are greeted on the other side, we will be asked, “Did you have a good time?” Here’s the YouTube link to one of the memorial services for the Rev. Meg Barnhouse, the woman I credit for making me a Unitarian Universalist. The service has been seen so far by 323 people. Just copy and paste “fs3cgqMFpQY” into your YouTube browser. The service starts about eight minutes in. This month’s Share the Plate collection will happen this Sunday for UU Justice NC, our amazing multi-congregational ministry across North Carolina that helps us stay tuned in to what we can do to work for justice and fairness among various government bodies and agencies. It is democracy on steroids. Join us this Saturday for this pawsome group ![]() In addition to this week’s fence build for chained dogs, save these additional dates to help Heart of the Carolinas UU Animal Ministry: March 14 and March 21. We are so grateful for your support! If you feel moved to donate, remember we are a 501(c) (3) nonprofit charity. ![]() Be sure to check out our new webpage at chainfreedogs.org. ___________________________ Our next opportunity to serve at FeedNC will be Thursday, March 12. Please contact Jim Arnold if you can help. Auction News Sixty-five days and counting! Our auction will be held on May 9 (mark those calendars now). Pat Wall has been busy contacting businesses for donations and is happy to share that we have already been given four tickets to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, a gift basket of doggy treats from Bark Box and a wine class for 20 people at Total Wine. And that’s just a beginning! If you have a hairdresser or a business that you frequent, ask if they will give you a donation. Tell them about all the good work our Fellowship does and that we are a 501(c) organization, so their donation is tax deductible. It’s easy and a great way to add to donations. A copy of the donation form is here. The auction will begin at Bailey’s Glen Clubhouse in Cornelius at 6 p.m. There will be both silent and live auction items to bid upon, a $5 table of fun items to purchase, food and drinks and lots of fun! This is the biggest fundraiser for the Fellowship so your donations, attendance and bidding are all very important. Contact Pat or Doug Wall with questions. ![]() Everyone is welcome to join the weekly Friday Action Hour, a virtual gathering of justice-seeking friends where we take action together and nurture our spirits for the work ahead.
