Supporting Religious Freedom

Currently the Islamic Community of Lake Norman, which was founded in 2011, rents meeting space in Mooresville.The congregation now seeks to build a permanent religious center on property that it purchased for this purpose in 2019. The property is zoned Community Commercial, which includes the right for religious assembly.The Mooresville Board of Commissioners is currently considering this request, but has encountered harsh pushback from some citizens because it is an Islamic group.
The next Mooresville commissioners meeting will be Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. at the Town Hall, which is at 413 N. Main St. We hope to have a large showing of people who value the First Amendment, which clearly tells us there is freedom of religion in the United States. Please join us in supporting our Muslim neighbors.
