![]() Sunday Service, 3 P.M.: FRIENDS MEETING HOUSE 625 SOUTH ST., DAVIDSON Please visit our events calendar for more information. Mail: P.O. Box 991 Davidson, NC 28036 PLEASE SCROLL DOWN TO THE END OF THE NEWSLETTER March 1 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘Are Birthdays Important?’On the day before Dr. Seuss’s birthday, Rev. Pat will question our culture’s obsession with cake, candles, ice cream and noting the passing of another year. Smart aleck newspaper columnist Dave Barry once wrote, “After about age eight, birthdays really should not be all that important.” What do you think? The Rev. Pat Jobe joined our Fellowship on Aug. 1, 2020. He is married to his lovely spouse Gabe and is an enthusiastic supporter of UU Lake Norman, FeedNC, Heart of the Carolinas UU Animal Ministry, the Barefoot Ministry, and all work done by UUs in our area. Services can be viewed live at 3:10 p.m., and later for replays, by visiting our website. Information on upcoming services can also be found on our Facebook page. March 8 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘Pat Jobe Explains All’At the risk of being the ultimate “mansplainer,” the beloved and sometimes confused minister will tackle a challenge from our beloved and never confused newsletter editor, Bruce Henderson. Just do it all in one sermon. And the next Sunday he has a day off, so no need to worry about an encore. Pat had a seminary professor who said, “Folks, don’t try to preach the whole Bible every Sunday.” Pat is going way beyond that. Let’s see whether he can land that plane. ![]() The recent protest in Concord had five us among the roughly 130 from Indivisible, Jewish Voice for Peace, MoveOn, and other groups. More than five of us are researching how ICE can legally convert a warehouse to a detention center. The fact that the conversion may well be against the law may not deter ICE, but one of our stalwarts is contacting the ACLU to see if a federal judge will prevent ICE from opening a center on Weddington Drive in Concord. Keep reading the newsletter to learn more. It’s wretched enough to think they have detained and now deported a two-month- old baby. To think such things might happen in Concord cuts even deeper to the emotional bone. Help Document our StoryThe Board has started a project to document the history of our Fellowship. Tim Brown has volunteered to lead the project and be the congregation’s historian. Please send documents, notes, and especially photographs to Tim to help document our history.
