Just show up and be prepared to have a great time\, meet some new people\, and enjoy seeing some very happy dogs! Organized by Jim Price and Claudia Perkinson. You can reach them by email or by filling out a Contact Form. \n\n\n\nIf you have not been to a fence build in a while\, please join us this Saturday.  We have some new “tricks” that we have learned and a build is usually completed by 11:30 a.m. It’s a great way to help those dogs (and their humans) and spend quality time with like-minded animal lovers. Pat Jobe: ‘The Mexican Day of the Dead’ \n\n\n\nA rollicking day of memory and celebration roughly coincides with Halloween and All Saints Day. The tradition holds that we can walk with death\, laugh at death\, even dance with death as it always hovers nearby. An extra table will be set up in the sanctuary to hold photos of our dearly departed and storytelling will be encouraged about those who no longer walk with us. Bring photos. Tell stories. Many traditions hold that they are always with us. \n\n\n\nPat will augment our Day of the Dead service this Sunday with a brief report on a lecture he heard Tuesday at Gardner-Webb University’s School of Divinity. A brilliant liberal scholar talked about how the ancient texts are badly misused by fundamentalists and people who advocate what they call “Biblical inerrancy.” \n\n\n\nWhat\, in fact\, is in the texts is an ancient struggle to find a path of loving kindness recommended by both Jesus and Buddha. Who knew?

DESCRIPTION:Oct. 12 – Rev. Pat Jobe: ‘Indigenous Peoples’ Day’ \n\n\n\nTraditionally the U.S. has celebrated Columbus Day\, which is still its official name. Many of us\, who hope to shape new traditions\, call it Indigenous Peoples’ Day. What a wonderful idea. The landing of Columbus in the Caribbean began the hundreds of years of genocide that included insidious policies fostering hunger and limited opportunity well into the last century. Despite some progress\, Native Americans remain among the poorest of our fellow citizens. Yet their art\, poetry and craftsmanship remain inspiring and give great beauty to life. If you have native art or pottery\, please bring it with you on Oct. 12 and we’ll set up a show in the lobby of the Quaker Meeting House.  \n\n\n\nPlease\, please\, please if you have framed art or pottery or some other item that celebrates our native tribes\, please bring it on Sunday and we will use chairs and tables in the lobby to display them on Sunday. \n\n\n\nShare the Plate this month will be for Hospitality House. One year after Hurricane Helene hit the North Carolina mountains\, Hospitality House in Boone is still working with the victims within the seven counties it serves. The organization thanked UU Lake Norman for its generosity over the past year. Pat and Doug Wall will collect any donated items over the next two weeks and deliver them. Hospitality House still needs $10 gas cards from Speedway gas stations so clients can get to doctor appointments and work. They also need new pillows and bath towels\, low-temperature sleeping bags and small electric infrared heaters. \n\n\n\nSpiritual Education: Véronique Singerman and Kim Lucas will be offering a yoga routine for children and teens this Sunday that focuses on breath\, balance\, strength\, and flexibility. Please wear comfortable clothing and be ready to have fun!  \n\n\n\nVisit us in person or watch online!

SUMMARY:Dog Fence Build
DESCRIPTION:Heart of the Carolinas UU Animal Ministry will be building a fence for Oakley\, a one year old black lab mix. We have all the tools you will need and a friendly group of people to teach you everything you need to know. Just show up and be prepared to have a great time\, meet some new people\, and enjoy seeing some very happy dogs! Organized by Jim Price and Claudia Perkinson. You can reach them by email or by filling out a Contact Form. \n\n\n\nIf you have not been to a fence build in a while\, please join us this Saturday.  We have some new “tricks” that we have learned and a build is usually completed by 11:30 a.m. It’s a great way to help those dogs (and their humans) and spend quality time with like-minded animal lovers.
