Become a Member

Why become a member? When you become a Member of our congregation, you become part of a growing, living institution. Our community is one of give and take, supporting and nurturing, exploring and growing.

Becoming a member of the UUFLKN congregation allows you to vote on congregational matters and elect officers to the Board, get involved on committees, as well as grant eligibility to become a Board member or committee chair. This gives you the power to help shape the congregation’s identity, mission, and future. The congregation is no greater than the energy we put into it.

Responsibilities of Membership

We need your presence. By coming together in worship, family gatherings, and service to the community, you help create a dynamic spiritual home that will light up our lives and the community at large.

Bringing your ideas and energy to bear. Consider all of the ways for active involvement: fellowship events, music, service to the community, stewardship, community outreach, organizing worship, Spiritual Exploration, and more.

We need your stewardship. Stewardship is a spiritual practice. It is the wise use of time, talent, and money that gives us the tools to live out our mission and goals. Our community is strengthened and invigorated through a spirit of gratitude and generosity. Through a strong financial commitment from members, we can maintain our spiritual home, support more programming that makes a difference in our spiritual lives, and expand our community outreach.

Membership in the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Lake Norman is open to all who embrace the ideals of our principles and our mission and wish to make this congregation their spiritual home. Membership implies a willingness to share one’s resources and talents and gives one the opportunity to help determine the direction of the congregation.

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Lake Norman’s strength and purpose is no greater than the strength and purpose brought to it by its members. We would love to have you with us.

Steps to Membership

We welcome into membership anyone 16 years and older who subscribes to our UUFLKN mission and the Principles and Purposes of the UUA.

  • Attending one or more meetings of Coffee and Conversations for Newcomers, and having an informal conversation with the Board President, Vice President, or our minister, Rev. Pat Jobe. Our congregation, Unitarian Universalism, and the responsibilities of membership are discussed at these sessions.
  • Participating in a brief ritual for formally joining the church (involving signing the Membership Book) during a Sunday service. You may join at other times if you have completed the orientation and spoken with a board member or Rev. Jobe.
  • Signing and turning in your pledge card and directory information.
  • Already a UU? If you are already a UU relocating from another congregation, you are welcome to sign the membership book and have your membership transferred after speaking to a board member or Rev. Jobe. We also encourage you to attend one of our Newcomer orientations.
